Former Tiger assistant coach to be honored

The 1983 Daingerfield Tigers are known as one of the best football teams in the state. Now, they can boast two Hall of Honor coaches.
Former Tiger head Coach Dennis Alexander was inducted into the East Texas Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 2014. “Coach A”, as he is known was introduced by his longtime assistant, Jacky Mayfield. On Feb. 21, Coach A will return the favor, introducing Mayfield at the former assistant’s induction.
During their time in Daingerfield, Alexander and Mayfield teamed up to lead two state championship teams, including the 1983 Tigers, who allowed eight points in 16 games, en route to the championship. The team set numerous records, including most shutouts (14) and consecutive shutouts (13). They were the first team to go 16 and zero.
