Lady Mustangs making noise on the diamond

Hughes Springs softball is showing the “big boys” of softball that they are the real deal in 2015. Hughes Springs traveled to Longview over the weekend and played in the Lady Lobo Tournament. When it was all said and done, the Lady Mustangs went 6-0 and served notice to the rest of 3A softball that they will be a force to be reckoned with, after demolishing the likes of Longview, Nacogdoches, Texas High, Rusk, Rains and Henderson. All of the teams listed were of the bigger school variety except for Rains. That didn’t matter to the Lady Mustangs, starting off the weekend with a 10-7 win over Rains. Bailey Tenbrook had the big stick against Rains with a three run bomb in the 2nd inning that broke open a close game. Peyton Blythe and Breanne Gunn were solid as well, with both going two for three. Blythe added two stolen bases and two RBI ‘s. Gunn had two doubles in the win. While on the mound Kaitlyn Morris was her usual solid self, going four innings and only surrendering five hits and one walk, while striking out five. Next victim for the ladies was Henderson, they held Hughes Springs to only two hits but in the end, the scrappy Lady Mustangs held on and were victorious 3-2. Kensley Echols and Peyton Blythe were the only hitters able to connect.
