Hughes Springs Math and Science team take first place in Mount Pleasant

Hughes Springs High School took 22 students to Mount Pleasant on Saturday, Jan. 30 for a UIL Academic meet. The students came home with 28 individual medals, while the Math and Science team finished in first place overall. Individual results are as follows.

Calli Stewart placed first in Number Sense, first in Math, fourth in Science, and first in Calculator for ninth grade. Calli also won second overall in Math. Jacob Sims placed sixth in Calculator and seventh in Number Sense for ninth grade. Chandler Priddy finished second in Math and seventh in Science for ninth grade. Chandler also won seventh overall in Math. Cameron Priddy placed third in Math, second in Science, and fifth in Calculator for ninth grade. Philip Campbell placed third in Science, fourth in Math, and seventh in Calculator for ninth grade.

Cypress Wright placed first in Calculator, first in Number Sense, and first in Math for tenth grade. Cypress also won first overall in Calculator, second overall in Math, and third overall in Number Sense. Jaden Alexander placed seventh in Number Sense and second in Science for tenth grade. Jaden also won seventh overall in Science. Ben Denny placed third in Science for tenth grade and went 2 and 1 in Debate rounds, placing tenth overall in debate.

Gabe DuBose placed first in Math and third in Number Sense for eleventh grade. Gabe also won fifth overall in Math. Caleb Mosley placed second in Math, fourth in Number Sense, and sixth in Calculator for eleventh grade. Justan Campbell placed third in Math for eleventh grade. Celeste O’Dell placed second in Number Sense for eleventh grade.

Savannah Wright first in Calculator and third in Number Sense for twelfth grade and first overall in Editorial Writing, third overall in Calculator, and fifth overall in Number Sense. Raphael Guilherne placed third in Science and seventh in Math for twelfth grade. Raphael also won fifth overall in Science. Cody Williams placed fourth in Science for twelfth grade.

Carson Moreland placed first overall in Prose. Levi Hawkins placed second overall in Poetry and fifth overall in Ready Writing. Emily Meade placed fifth overall in Feature Writing, and Mattie Morehead placed third overall in Literary Criticism.
