Lady Tigers compete in Lobo Classic
The Daingerfield Lady Tiger softball team stayed busy over the weekend, competing in the Longview Lobo Classic on Feb, 18, 19, and 20. In tournament play, games are played with a time limit, not based on innings.
In their first game on Thursday, the Tigers defeated the Lady Rebels from Tyler Lee, 11 to 2. Camryn Byrd was the winning pitcher for the Tigers, allowing two runs on three singles. Byrd walked two, and struck out seven Rebels in the win. Ashlyn Fomby went two for two in the game, and also had two runs batted in. Nekoda Coleman went one for two, but that one hit was a bases loaded homerun in the final inning. In Tigers’ final game of the day, Byrd took the loss, as Lindale defeated the Lady Tigers, 8 to 3. Offensively, Baylee Welch went two for two with two singles and a run batted in for the Tigers. Second baseman Coleman was a defensive star in the loss, notching seven put outs.
The Tigers were back at it on Friday, Feb. 19, as they took on they took on the Lady Lions from New Boston. The Tigers were held hitless in this game, losing by the score of 4 to 0. The host Lady Lobos were the Tigers’ next opponent on Friday, which went to the last minute. Longview scored the winning run as time expired to defeat the Tigers, 5 to 4, and saddle Byrd with her third loss. At the plate, Byrd had a single and a double, and scored the tying run as time ran out. The Lobos would then score in their portion of the inning to win the game.
In Saturday action, the Tigers defeated the Hallsville Junior Varsity, 5 to 1. Byrd was the winning pitcher for the Tigers, running her record to 2-3. Meme Black hit a solo home run for the Tigers, and Skylar Williams added a double and two runs batted in. In the Tigers’ final action of the tournament, Pine Tree defeated Daingerfield, 10 to 4, in an error-prone performance by the Tigers. The Tigers committed three errors in the 10 to 4 loss. Black and Buford each had a double for the Tigers in that matchup.
