New fixtures put to good use at Daingerfield Library

By Toni Walker
The Daingerfield Public
Library has received new fixtures
from a grant received
from the Tocker Foundation.
Librarian Earline Walton
applied for a grant through the
Tocker Foundation. The
Tocker Foundation was established
in 1964 to carry out the
philanthropic interests of
Phillip and Olive Tocker. The
estates of both Mr. and Mrs.
Tocker were endowed to the
foundation upon their deaths
in 1994 and 1993, respectively.
Prior to the Tocker’s deaths, the
Foundation decided to focus
on grant distribution to rural
libraries servicing populations
of 12,000 or less. The aim of the
grants is to assist libraries in
making services more accessible
to individuals who by reason
of distance, residence,
handicap, age, literacy level, or
other disadvantage are unable
to receive the benefits of public
library services.
Mrs. Walton’s submitted
grant was reviewed by a permanent
committee of librarians
appointed by the Texas
Library Association. The total
amount awarded to the
Daingerfield Public Library
was $29,167.75. That amount
was used to purchase new furniture
and shelving for the
library. As part of the new fixtures,
the library now offers a
new seating area with contoured-
arm chairs and
couches. The seating area also
boasts new side tables, complete
with electrical and usb
outlets readily available for
patrons use in charging their
phones or computers while at
the library. The library also
purchased new computer
tables for their multi-media
area in the back of the library.
Children now have a more colorful
area, as well, with new,
kid-friendly shelving and seating
cushions.
Walton invites the public to
come and visit the library, and
test out the new features. The
library is also preparing for a
full summer of activities, as
well, to make it easy to stop by.
