Math team has 16 qualify for state

The Daingerfield Junior High Math-Science Team competed at the State qualifying meet held in Ore City on Saturday, Feb. 20. The team placed second overall in division II. Students placing in the top ten in each event are as follows.

In eighth grade Number Sense: Justice Dorman placed second, Victor Gonzalez placed fifth, and Ryan Lewis placed seventh. On the seventh grade: Laura Carter placed first, Natalie Beasley placed second, and Riley Scholl placed sixth. For the sixth grade: Jazmin Mendez placed seventh, Julissa Chavez placed eighth, and Sanaa Fields placed ninth.

In the Calculator competition, for eighth grade: Justice Dorman placed first, Victor Gonzalez placed third, Jamie Nix placed fourth, and Ryan Lewis placed fifth. For the seventh grade: Natalie Beasley placed fourth, Laura Carter placed sixth, and Riley Scholl placed ninth. In sixth grade: Jazmin Mendez placed first, Jaci Simmons placed second, Haley Lewis placed fourth, and Sanaa Fields placed sixth.

In the General Math competition, for eighth grade: Justice Dorman placed third and Victor Gonzalez placed seventh. For seventh grade: Laura Carter placed fourth. For the sixth grade: Sanaa Fields placed third, Jazmin Mendez placed eighth, and Sydney Key placed ninth. In the Science competition, eighth grader Justice Dorman placed third. Sixth graders Sydney Key and Karmen Searcy placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Sixteen students from Daingerfield Junior High School qualified at this meet to compete in 37 events at the State Championship meet in San Antonio on April 16,. The team will compete in one more qualifier, and then the Regional meet. The students that qualified at this meet are as follows.

Justice Dorman qualified in four events, Victor Gonzalez qualified in two events, Ryan Lewis qualified in two events, and Jamie Nix qualified in one event for the eighth grade. For the seventh grade: Natalie Beasley qualified for two events, Laura Carter qualified for four events, Ebony Chalk qualified for two events, Riley Scholl qualified for two events, and Sonny Wu qualified for one event. For the sixth grade: Julissa Chavez qualified in one event, Sanaa Fields qualified in three events, Sydney Key qualified in two events, Haley Lewis qualified in three events, Jazmin Mendez qualified in three events, Karmen Searcy qualified in three events, and Jaci Simmons qualified in two events.
