Varsity Lady Tigers go undefeated in Two Step Tournament

The Daingerfield Lady Tigers again stayed busy through the weekend, competing in the Texas Two Step Tournament at Lear Park in Longview. Both the junior varsity and varsity squads competed for the Tigers.

On Thursday, the Lady Tigers junior varsity played in two games, one against the Pleasant Grove junior varsity team, and the other against Carlisle. The Lady Tigers were outscored 27 to 4 in the two contests, with Destiny Hurndon taking both losses on the mound.

The Varsity Tigers came out firing on all cylinders on Thursday, defeated Timpson 12 to 6. Camryn Byrd was the winning pitcher for the Tigers, striking out four and walking two, while allowing four earned runs. The Tigers committed five errors in the game, accounting for two unearned runs. Meme Black and Nekoda Coleman both hit homeruns for the Tigers, which accounted for five Tiger runs. Byrd was also effective at the plate, hitting a single and a double, and bringing in three runs.

In the Tigers second game of the day, Daingerfield defeated Detroit by the score of 7 to 2. Byrd once again took the win for the Tigers, this time striking out six while walking only two. Coleman was again the offensive sparkplug for the team, hitting two homeruns while scoring twice and being credited for three runs batted in. The Tigers made up for their errors in the first game, committing none in the second game of the day.

Avery was the Tigers first opponent on Friday, and Daingerfield picked up right where they had left off the day before, winning the game 13 to 7. Byrd again helped herself at the plate, with a single, two doubles, and two runs scored. She also had two runs batted in. Denver Mims reached base on three singles, and scored three runs, and Dee Hall added two runs batted in on a single. Byrd was again dominate on the mound, striking out four while walking none. The error bug once again visited the Tigers, who committed seven in this game, allowing for three unearned runs. The Tigers then faced Arp, and won that game as well, 7 to 6. This ran Bryd’s record to 6 and 4. Byrd walked three, but struck out seven in the win. Alexis Porter had a single and two doubles for her three hits, and scored two runs while also batting in two. Black added two runs batted in for the Tigers.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigersd continued their dominance, with Byrd allowing one hit in a shutout win over Maud. Byrd struck out 11 while walking none. Coleman added another homerun for the Tigers in the 8 to zero win, and Black added three runs batted in.

The Tigers finished off their weekend with a 5 to 2 win over West Rusk. Black cranked one double, scored a run, and had a run batted in for the Tigers in the win. On the weekend, the Tigers won all six games, with Byrd dominating from the mound all weekend. She recorded 38 strikeouts and only seven base on balls through the weekend. Coleman was an offensive star for the Tigers, with four homeruns and seven runs batted in. Byrd also was credited for eight runs batted in, as well.

The Tigers next action will be the Spring Break Throw Down at Spring Hill and Pine Tree, March 3-5.
