At a special called meeting of the Hughes Springs ISD School Board, Feb. 17, the vote was unanimous not to renew High School Ag teacher Randy Penny’s contract for the 2016-17 year. As a matter of policy, the district does not comment on personnel matters; however, HSISD Superintendent Sarah Dildine did confirm that Mr. Penny is currently on paid administrative leave.

In other HSISD business conducted at the regular meeting Feb. 8, the Board voted to approve expenditures of $28,667.72 for upgrade of the HSISD wireless network system, $18,730.40 for a 4-day staff development seminar in June for math teachers, and $3,780.00 for HSISD internet transport service for 2016. Approved Consent Agenda items included an Order for General Election May 7, 2016 for Places 6 and 7 (currently held by Van Hall and Robyn Shelton), and a proposal for material and labor in the amount of $18,780.00 to block-in school building windows. Superintendent Sarah Dildine also introduced a proposal to convert the current Life Skills building to a Culinary Arts building, and relocate the Life Skills class to space currently not being used.
