The Hughes Springs Mustangs baseball team took on Atlanta last week, with the contest not being close but serving as a learning experience. Hughes Springs was on the losing end, 14-3. On the bright side, Bo McEntire went two for four, while Jake Moore went one for four. The team followed the Atlanta loss with a tournament this past weekend, and played a total of four games.

Thursday started the same as Tuesday ended, with Hughes Springs losing. The score was a bit closer and showed fight in the boys, with Hughes Springs losing 2-1 to the Hooks Hornets. Alex Bruce was three for three with a double and a run scored.

Friday saw a lot of hitting and two wins for the Mustangs. In the first contest of the day, the Mustangs defeated the dreaded Elysian Fields Yellow Jackets, 6-4. Behind strong pitching from Moore and solid hitting from Bruce and McEntire, the Mustangs started the ball rolling for the day. Bruce and McEntire each had three hits, while Riley McKinney had two hits and two runs batted in.

Game two saw Garrison as the next victim of a suddenly hot lineup. With Bruce, McEntire and McKinney leading the way, the Mustangs trounced the Bulldogs, 11-2. Jake Moore got into the action at the plate this time going three for four, with two RBIs and a double.

The Mustangs ended the weekend with a game against the Pine Tree junior varsity. Harrison Reagan took to the mound and was solid with six innings pitched and five strikeouts. At the plate, Reagan was solid as well, going two for four with one run scored. Drake Hill got in the action as well, going one for three with a run scored.

This week the Mustangs will get back in action against DeKalb Tuesday and then will take part in the Spring Hill tournament that starts Thursday. Come out and support the Hughes Springs teams, no matter the location.
