Spring showers are supposed to bring flowers and all that, but come softball season, they bring chaos and confusion.

The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs were limited to one game last week, playing one before rain moved in. They were unable to get in a second game due to field conditions.

The softball team was able to get in a game against the lady Tigers from Daingerfield, but were forced to play the waiting game with the Queen City Lady Bulldogs, concerning their game which was scheduled for Friday. That game was pushed back until Saturday, and then postponed to a date to be determined.

Maybe the Lady Mustangs sensed that they would only be able to play one game, because they sure put their foot on the proverbial gas pedal, smashing the visiting Daingerfield team to a tune of 14-0, only playing five innings. Zoe Lanier again toed the rubber on the mound and was electric again, not allowing a hit while striking out five in just three innings. Lanier gave way to Becca Bates, who completed the shutout with two strong innings, only allowing one hit and striking out four. As a team, the Lady Mustangs pounded out 12 hits in the game, with Peyton Blythe leading the way with three. She had a double, and scored three runs in the win. Kennedi Northam was like a lion on the prowl, with three runs batted in and three runs scored, all while going three for four at the plate. Hughes Springs had four doubles in the game total, with Shelbie Fickling, Haylee Wilson and Bailey Tenbrook, leading the way, with each having a double in the win.

On the year, the ladies are scorching the stat books with eye popping numbers. As a team the ladies are batting, .382, with a slugging percentage of .529, and an on base percentage of .461. They have scored 150 runs so far this year, while pounding out 164 hits and have 64 stolen bases in only 21 games.

The ladies are scheduled to play Linden at home on Tuesday and then play host to Pewitt on Friday.
