Math team wins Regional Competition

Daingerfield Junior High School recently competed at the Regional Math meet at Queen City. In a close meet, DJH outscored Queen City, Atlanta, Hughes Springs, Spring Hill, Paris, Ore City, McLeod, and Pewitt for the division II Regional crown. In the nine meets Daingerfield has competed in this year, they have finished first in five of them, and second in the other four.

Individuals placing in the top five and bringing home a trophy form the Regional Meet are as follows. In Number Sense, Daingerfield had the first place team, Eighth grader Justice Dorman placed first and was crowned the regional champion. In seventh grade, Laura Carter placed third, and Natalie Beasley placed fourth. Sixth grader Haley Lewis placed fifth.

The Calculator team was also first place. Justice Dorman was once again regional champ, while Jamie Nix placed second and Victor Gonzalez placed fifth. Sixth graders Jazmin Mendez, Nam Vu, Haley Lewis, and Sanaa Fields placed third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.

Daingerfield had the second place General Math team, with Justice Dorman winning first and the regional championship, and Victor Gonzalez placing fourth.

The second place Science team including sixth grade regional champion Sanaa Fields, Jazmin Mendez who placed third, and Sydney Key, who finished in fifth.

Daingerfield has 21 students advancing to the State Meet in 52 events. This is a BIG accomplishment. According to Coach Pam Scheu, “At most schools, students specialize in one event, but not at DJH. All of our students compete in all four events at every meet. This means that all of our students must practice all four events every week. As you can see from the number of students qualified and the number of events, our students compete very well in all of the events.”

Those students that have qualified to compete in San Antonio on April 16 are as follows. In eighth grade, Justice Dorman qualified in all four events. Victor Gonzalez qualified in Number Sense, Calculator, and General Math. Ryan Lewis qualified in Number Sense and Calculator, while Jamie Nix and Nakeisha Robinson both gualified in Calculator.

For the seventh grade, Laura Carter and Riley Scholl qualified in all four. Natalie Beasley qualified in Number Sense, Calculator, and General Math. Ebony Chalk qualified in Number Sense and Calculator, while Alivia Ragsdale qualified in Calculator. Sonny Wu qualified in Number Sense, Calculator, and Science.

For the sixth grade, Sanaa Fields and Jazmin Mendez qualified in all four events. Karmen Searcy and Jaci Simmons qualified in Number Sense, Calculator, and Science. Haley Lewis qualified in Number Sense, Calculator, and General Math. Sydney Key placed in General Math and Science. Nam Vu qualified in Calculator and General Math. Julissa Chavez qualified in Number Sense, while Jaylon Evans and Breana Williams both qualified in Science.
