This Supreme Court battle is important

A Patriot's Opinion

Ever since the death of Supreme court Justice Antonin Scalia the fight to replace him on the high court has become a political football. The president has said he will nominate someone to replace the Scalia vacancy, and the senate has vowed to block any nomination the president makes until after the upcoming presidential election. So why is this so important? The Supreme Court was designed and constructed to interpret the constitution for what it says not to legislate from the bench. But that is exactly what president Obama has done with his last two Supreme Court nominees. Liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan were put on the court to basically do whatever Mr. Obama wishes. That is not the way the system is supposed to work.

It is no secret that president Obama is a liberal. And judging from these last two appointments it is a foregone conclusion that he would nominate another liberal judge to the court. The appointment of a Supreme Court justice is not a temporary thing. These justices are elected for life therefore anyone selected to fill these positions is going to make decisions that will effect not just this generation but the next as well. Before Mr. Scalia’s death the court was divided by one swing vote. There were four conservative votes and four liberal votes on the court with Justice Kennedy being the swing vote in most cases. Justice Scalia was one of those conservative votes with many saying he was probably one of the most conservative constitutional justices in the history of the court. So why is the choice of his replacement so important you ask? There are many important cases coming across the docket of the Supreme Court in the next several years. Gun control, privacy rights, immigration, and religion are just some of these concerns. It is clearer now than any time in our history that our rights and freedoms are under attack. Whether it is our gun rights, or freedom of religion, it’s clear that president Obama and the democrats would like nothing more than to implement stricter gun control measures and restrict our religious freedom while at the same time opening the flood gates to Muslims and their religious demands. And if you haven’t seen this already happening than you must be living under a rock. Obamacare was thrust upon the American people by the president with 100 percent democrat support. Not one republican supported or voted on it. And now Obamacare is crumbling under its own weight and costs for healthcare are skyrocketing instead of going down as promised. Unfortunately Chief Justice Roberts was no help in this battle when he basically stabbed conservatives in the back by siding with the president when it came to voting on the mandate for coverage. Now we have folks with healthcare plans with ridiculous deductible and copays. The president lied to every American and promised a savings of $2,500 per family when trying to sell his Obamacare plan. Electing another liberal to the court would do nothing but cement Obamacare and punish Americans for years to come.

Our second amendment rights are also on the chopping block every day with the current administration in power. In his perfect world order President Obama would like nothing better than to see all handguns and rifles confiscated, and at a minimum make it impossible and expensive to buy guns and ammo. Every time there is another shooting incident the president’s first reaction is to punish the law abiding gun owners rather than the criminal element that caused the problem. A supreme court with a majority of liberal judges would be a disaster for any and all Americans that love their freedom.

That is why the choice of a nominee must be postponed until we see who the next president will be. Of course if Hillary Clinton is somehow not charged and convicted and allowed to become president than you may as well kiss what little freedoms we have left goodbye. After the damage done by Barack Obama in the last seven years our only hope is to replace him with a conservative republican president who can right this sinking ship. And that person should be who chooses the next Supreme Court justice. The Supreme Court will survive for the rest of the year with eight justices. And after January 20, 2017, we will allow the new president to nominate Mr. Scalia’s replacement because the alternative is not an acceptable solution.
