The left is going off the rails
A Patriot's Opinion
By Jim Snyder
The liberal left in this country never fails to surprise us with their latest idea as to how they think we should live our lives. The latest excursion into the liberal abyss comes from MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry. On her show a few weeks ago she said the following: “We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we've always had a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven't had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities."
Say what? Our kids don’t belong to their parents or their family? Really? This is scarily familiar to what Hillary Clinton said years ago when she uttered her famous “It takes a village to raise a child”. I think this kind of thinking is a large part of the problem today. I think many have relied too much on government or others to raise their kids. A huge problem all across this nation are unsupervised kids who are left to roam the streets many times with parents not knowing where they are. And many times they become involved in criminal and illegal activity. But bottom line here is they still belong to their parents, not the community or the government. Last time I checked birth certificates still show the parent’s names. But don’t get me wrong I’m sure the government would love to claim ownership. We all see the indoctrination they are receiving in colleges across the country. Some 95% of college professors claim to be liberals and they pound their liberal ideals into the minds of our children from the minute they arrive on campus until the time they graduate. And many times these children are graduating with degrees in fields that have no practical application to any job opening in the real world. There is not a huge demand for applicants with 18th century European studies degrees. Just sayin.
But the comments of Melissa Harris-Perry are not unique because she is just one of a hundred liberal commentators who spew this dribble out on a daily basis. Ms. Perry is not the first to say we have not invested enough in public education. But that is just not true. It has been proven over and over that throwing money at schools does not solve the problem. New York, Boston, and Baltimore have the highest cost per student ratios in the nation ($20,226, $19,226, & $15,287) and yet they have failing schools. The national average cost per student is $11,674 and Texas average cost per student is $8,998 and there are plenty of high performing schools in all areas of the country. So it’s not how much is spent but rather how much education we get for those dollars.
Liberals like Ms. Perry and others always think that throwing more money at any problem will solve it but that is simply not true. The fact is that our kids belong to us, and the less government intervention we have in their lives and ours is always a good thing.
