Word has been released that Sid and Eva Greer, sole owners of Greer Farm in Daingerfield and The Rocky Branch Ranch, have placed properties up for auction through Concierge Auctions.

In a recent newsletter from the Greer’s, they called this “The subject line of this email is The Sale of the Greer Farm: An End and a Beginning.” And truly, this change will be just that: an end, as well as a beginning.

Sid and Eva Greer have been owners of the farm for 37 of 40 years of married life. The farm was originally purchased by Eva’s father, and in 1994, Sid and Eva took sole possession. “We have nurtured it to what it is today, and shared our lives here with thousands,” Greer stated in the newsletter.

The end is that of the Greer’s owning the farm where they have spent the last 37 years. In those years, thousands have found their way to the farm during picking season for a full day of berry picking. Children and adults alike have left with bags full of fresh-picked strawberries and blueberries (and many have probably eaten almost as many as ended up in their buckets.).

The farm also offered an array of cabins for rent to offer a quite outing for couples and families. Renters of the cabins could fish in the private lake, hike wooded trails, or even enjoy a meal cooked by Chef Eva. When Chef Eva was not cooking for the farm’s cabin quests, she was canning the very berries people would drive from miles to pick, catering dinners, or teaching culinary classes.

Although sale of the farm will be the end of the Greer’s time there, it will also open the doors for a new chapter in both their lives, and the life of the farm. In the newsletter announcing the sale, Greer wrote “I have often written on our blog or Facebook about the circle of life we experience on this farm. Our leaving is not an end, but a beginning in our circle of life.” A beginning that will start, for the farm, at least, on April 28.

According to the newsletter, “We will know after the sale what the new owner’s plan may be for the cabin rentals and for the pick-your-own berry season that will start about May 28,” said Greer. Details will be posted on both the Greer Farm website and Facebook after the April 28 sale date, according to Greer.
