City and School board elections will be held on May 7. Although there were no contested positions for Daingerfield or Hughes Springs city councils, there will be elections for Hughes Springs School Board, Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD School Board, and Lone Star city council. In an effort to get community members familiar with the candidates, the City of Lone Star hosted a Meet and Greet for the candidates.

According to organizer Sandy Duke, all candidates for Lone Star city council and D-LS ISD School Board were invited to the informal gathering. With the exception of one school board candidate, and two city council candidates, all those campaigning for a position was in attendance. There was even a surprise visit by State Representative candidate Cole Hefner, who will be in a runoff for that position on May 24.

Duke introduced the candidates that were unable to be in attendance, which were Lynn Fry and Tom Smith for Lone Star city council, and Dwayne Staples for D-LS ISD School Board. After Duke introduced those who were absent, each candidate began introducing themselves and stating what position they were running for.

Lynn Cox, Keith Reiter, Rene Martin, Ryan Harte, Jeri Chism, and Lewis Reynolds will be joining Fry and Smith on the ballot for City Council of Lone Star. There are three positions up for grabs, and the top three vote getters will be declared the winners.

For Daingerfield-Line Star ISD School Board, Cody Wommack and incumbent Mike Alcorn are facing off for the At-Large, Position four seat. Incumbent Marie Skipper is running against Ben Terry and Dwayne Staples for the the At-Large, Position three.

In Hughes Springs, voters will elect one new board member. Incumbent Van Hall is facing off against Rick Colegrove for that position.

All polls will open at 7 a.m., and remain open until 7 p.m. Lone Star voters may cast their ballots for city council and Daingerfield School Board at the Lone Star Fire Station. Others voting for Daingerfield School Board will cast their ballots at the D-LS ISD Administration office. Hughes Springs voting will take place at the Community Building in Hughes Springs.
