Mims Water Supply Corporation is in stable financial condition, with solid evidence of fiscal responsibility, continued growth and improvements in system infrastructure” according to Carmela Davis, CPA who presented her report to the board of directors at the annual meeting held at the Mims Community Center April 26.

Mrs. Davis’ Longview accounting firm conducted an audit of the 2015 monthly board meeting minutes, financial activities and administrative actions, and reported the results of that audit at the annual meeting. Mims Water Supply Corporation provides water service to over 800 customers in Cass, Marion and Morris counties.

Also at the meeting, Operations Manager Dave Oney reported that installation of automated “drive-by” meters had been completed in Marion county, and will continue throughout the service area in 2016. In some areas, conversion from traditional “foot-route” meters to remote-read meters is expected to reduce the time it takes to read a single route by as much as 75 percent.

Mr. Oney also provided an update on water testing by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. In 2015, TCEQ had found that “the drinking water being supplied to customers served off of the main water line on FM 729 between Highway 155 and Alley Creek had exceeded the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for haloacetic acids.” (HAAs are “volatile organic compounds that are formed when chlorine, added to the water during the treatment process for disinfection, reacts with naturally- occurring organic matter in the water.”) The latest test performed by TCEQ revealed that the level of HAAs has returned to normal. However, because the quarterly report produced by TCEQ is based on a rolling 12-month average, the overall average still exceeds the MCL of 0.060, so TCEQ required Mims to send a second letter to customers. Mims anticipates that the high reading, which was from the first quarter of 2015, will fall off the 12- month average in the next testing cycle.

Board president George Morris, Jr. commended Dave Oney and Office Manager Paula Hathcoat for the job they have done this year in assisting the board in its endeavors and in serving the customers of Mims Water. Mr. Morris welcomed the 2016 board members, and thanked them for their service to the community, then adjourned the meeting.
