Greer Farm has not been sold, and the farm will continue to operate as usual, under the continued ownership of Sid and Eva Greer.

In a newsletter from the Greers, it was announced that the auction had been cancelled. “In what could have been our last newsletter, I mentioned the circle of life that we have experienced on this farm and that its sale would not be an ending, but a beginning. Little did I imagine that we would cancel the auction and the beginning would start right where we were. Long story short; it became obvious that the potential buyers were not interested in a farm, but more of a private retreat. Secondly, they saw no value in the farm since that was not their interest. Eva and I have put so much into making this farm what it is and had no desire to let that legacy fade away. Yes, we were disappointed, but hope springs eternal and there is a reason for everything,” read an excerpt from the newest newsletter.

The Greers used this newest newsletter to remind the community of the offerings the farm has, beginning with the “pick-your-own” blueberries and blackberries. Though worried by late frosts, the Greers are certain the crop will be as good as years past, as the blueberry plants are as tall as some visitors. The farm offers five varieties of blueberries, with the first becoming ready for picking on or after June 7. The farm’s varieties of blackberries offers season-long pickings, with varieties ready starting around Memorial Day, to late–season varieties available after July 4. All of the Greer blackberry vines have no thorns, making them a favorite, as well. Prices for pick-your-own berries will remain at $3.25 per pound you pick. A gallon bucket contains 5-6 pounds of berries.

There are two opportunities in June to participate in a hands-on cooking class with Chef Eva. July and August classes will be posted on our website. The June classes will be using our blueberries and blackberries.

June 11 is a Hands-on Jam Making Cass. This class is back in the schedule by popular demand. Both blackberry and blueberry jam variations will be made and you take home jars of what you have learned to make. The class will start at 11:00 am at the farm and last about 3 hours or so. Cost is $80 per person.

June 18 is a gluten free menu Chef Eva calls, In the Heart of the Greer Farm Berry Field. This class is also hands-on and you eat what you make! The class will start at 11:00 am at the farm and last about 3 hours or so. Cost is $80 per person. Please reserve early so you are not disappointed. Availability is limited. Reserve by calling the farm at 903-645-3232.

The farm will continue to offer their four cabins for rent, as well as their barn loft, and fishing will still be available at the private pond, as well as the farm’s offerings of eggs, beef, and other natural offerings. Greer Farm can be followed on Facebook, and at their website, www.greerfarm.com.
