Are you considering buying, building or renting a home? Does your current home need urgent repairs? The Rural Development Agency of the USDA may be able to help. Financial assistance is available to individuals and families that includes long-term, low-interest loans, loan guarantees and grants. Funds are available for building, purchasing or renting a home, as well as making repairs and improvements to remove health and safety hazards. The programs are designed primarily to assist lowincome applicants in communities of less than 35,000 residents.

Want to know more? Make plans now to attend the Housing Finance Workshop offered by the USDA Rural Development agency. The workshop will be Tuesday, June 7 at 6:00 p.m., at the Hughes Springs Community Center at 902 East First Street.

Public bodies and nonprofit entities are also eligible for assistance. The USDA has programs for constructing, enlarging or otherwise improving essential community facilities, such as public safety, fire and rescue, telecommunications, schools, libraries, hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

According to the USDA, “Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has invested $11 billion to start or expand 103,000 rural businesses; helped 1.1 million rural residents buy homes; funded nearly 7,000 community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care facilities; financed 180,000 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines; and helped bring high-speed Internet access to nearly 6 million rural residents and businesses.”

Individuals, non-profits, home builders, mortgage lenders and realtors are all invited to attend. This workshop offers the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the Rural Development Housing Team and establish a working relationship.
