Scouts from the local Troop/Pack 220 have had an eventful summer. In June, both groups attended summer camps and earned a plethora of awards and badges. The Troop attended Camp Pioneer in Eagle Township, Arkansas. Cub Scouts entering fourth and fifth grades attended summer camp at Camp Dierks in Wright City, Oklahoma. Cub Scouts of all ages attended Day Camp in Mount Pleasant.

In order to build a stronger bond between the two age groups, joint activities were scheduled throughout the summer. Beginning in May, the groups came together for the first annual Troop versus Pack versus Leaders versus Family Members Pinewood Derby. One of a kind trophies were made by the Cubmaster and Scoutmaster to award to winners in several categories. June saw an annual favorite when the Scouts hit the turf at Mickey Mayne Tiger Stadium for a game of Flag Football. In July, the Scouts cooled off in Mount Pleasant during a refreshing swim party and filled their bellies with hot dogs and snacks. Wrapping up summer activities, the groups came together and played a traditional Scout Game before retiring to the West Elementary Cafeteria where they watched a movie and enjoyed refreshments, including the famous buttered popcorn from the Morris Twin Cinema.

For any child interested in joining Scouts, the annual Scout Rally is tentatively scheduled for September 13 at West Elementary. Please check the Happenings section as time gets closer for an exact date and time. For more information on Cub Scouts, you can contact Randy Terry, Cubmaster, at 903- 736-5357.
