The Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 15. On the agenda was the consideration and possible hiring of a permanent Business Manager.

Former Business Manager Jeff Chambers, who left the school for a position at Northeast Texas Community College, was in attendance as interim Business Manager David O’Dell presented the board with the recap of July, 2017 Financial Reports. During their executive session, the board considered hiring of a Business Manager, pursuant to Texas Government Code 555.074. After returning to open session, board President Neil Roney entertained a motion from Jerry Stoermer to hire O’Dell as the permanent District Business Manager. The motion was seconded by Marie Skipper, and was passed unanimously by the board.

In other staff and faculty news, Superintendent Sandra Quarles announced the resignation of South Elementary principal, Craig Toney. She also announced two new hires, stating that Laura Williams had been hired to teach math at Daingerfield High School. Martha Clifton, who has held numerous positions in the district previously, was brought back as the interim principal at South Elementary.

In other action, the board heard from Food Service Director Linda Martin with regard to the Summer Feeding Program. Martin stated that the school would be receiving a $7,000 reimbursement check for their participation in the program. Martin stated the program, which runs the month of June, served over 1,800 students lunch this year. Over 900 students received breakfast during the program, as well.

During the listed consent items, there was a discussion on The Accepted Bids List. Board member Miguel Larsen asked why there was a vendor listed with a note that they missed the deadline. Through discussion, it was determined that the Accepted Bids List is not a requirement, and that it was more a list of possible vendors, rather than a list of bids that had been accepted. Larsen then made a motion to table the item, until the board could review the language of the posting.

In other business, the board adopted Texas Association of School Boards Update 105, which mainly involved language changes from “No Child Left Behind,” to the new “Every Student Succeeds Act.”

With no further business, the board adjourned until their next regularly scheduled meeting.
