Daingerfield Area Health Fair celebrates 22 years
Plans are being made for the 22nd annual Daingerfield Area Health Fair on Saturday Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. at Daingerfield High School. DLSISD and Hughes Springs School Health Advisory Councils (SHAC) will be the sponsors for the event. Their booth will have information on how they are focusing on “The Whole School, Whole Community, and Whole Child” through 10 components of School Health.
Ounce of Prevention is the community component of the SHAC. Northeast Texas Coalition Against Substance Abuse (NETCASA) is the new name that replaced the Mission Possible logo. Parents and community members are asked to learn more on becoming a part. The student coalition will have a booth to talk about their activities and the new class at DLISD High School on leadership.
Again, agencies will provide health screenings, and many are free. Screenings will include: blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, diabetic foot exam, skin inspections, and PSA. Flu shots will be free for Medicare patients. Tetanus, and pneumonia vaccine will be available at the DSHS booth. Shingles shots will be offered this year too. Hughes Springs and Tall Pines Clinics will be available to do skin assessments. Almost every year, someone has been identified with suspicious skin area that needs follow up for cancer.
Several agencies will be available to discuss prevention for alcohol and drugs. Our local police will share programs they currently do for prevention. TxDoT will be providing information on several campaigns to discourage texting and driving and driving under the influence. Carter Blood Care will be hosting a blood drive during the fair. Be sure you donate blood prior to receiving the flu shot. The Daingerfield Country Club and Morris County Judge Lynda Munkres will again make golf cart pick- up and delivery available to the door and back to the car.
Don’t forget to bring your glasses to put in the Lion’s Club box for recycling. A mobile mammogram unit will offer mammograms by appointment only by calling 1-800-648- 8141 ext. 3. They can file on insurance....
