The Morris County Commissioners met on Tuesday, Oct. 11 for their regular monthly meeting. On the agenda included items concerning new software for the Sheriff ’s Department dispatchers and the HOME Housing Rehabilitation Assistance Program.

The Homeowner Rehabilitation Assistance (HRA) program funds Units of General Local Governments, Public Housing Authorities, and nonprofits to provide the following services under the Homeowner Rehabilitation Assistance initiative, including 1. Rehabilitation or reconstruction of owner-occupied housing on the same site; 2. New Construction of site-built housing on the same site to replace an existing owner occupied Manufactured Housing Unit (MHU); as well as other initiatives.

There are currently three houses in Morris County that are being completed under this program. Anyone who lives in substandard housing, meets certain income requirements, has a clear title to their home and land, and is not behind on their taxes is eligible to apply for the program. If the applicant is accepted, the program would build a new home on the property for the homeowner.

The court heard from County Auditor Shanna Solomon, who gave them one bid for management consulting on the project. With a bid that was basically the same as in previous years, the court chose to stay with Kathy Boles as the consulting firm for the HOME HRA Program.

In other business, the Court voted to enter into an agreement with Tyler Technologies for Incode Public Safety Suite, which is software that will better enable dispatchers to assist officers. “This program will be a big benefit to the officers and their safety, as well as a big benefit to the community,” said dispatcher Carnella Ryan. The court also voted to approve the deputation William Bruce Thompson, who comes to the department from Naples.
