Beginning Nov. 1, the City of Hughes Springs plans to launch a payment processing service that will accept credit and debit cards for payment of city water bills. At the regularly scheduled City Council meeting Oct. 18, the council voted unanimously to accept the proposal of Heartland Payment Processing Services. The council had previously approved a motion to implement a credit card payment service, but delayed acting on that motion due to costs to the city.

Heartland will accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and debit cards for payment of Hughes Springs water bills, according to Glenda Russell at City Hall. Heartland charges a convenience fee of 4% of the amount of the payment being made. Bills may be paid 24/7, and customers will have the choice of calling a toll-free number, or paying on line by clicking on the link to be found on the City of Hughes Springs web site, www.hughesspringstxusa. com. At press time, this section of the city’s web site is still “under construction”, but Russell encourages water utility customers to check back after Nov.
