Daingerfield has a new location for events, meetings, parties, and get togethers. Chris and Denise Smith are in the process of opening “The Postmark” event center in downtown Daingerfield.

Originally constructed between 1890 and 1910, the building which houses The Postmark has seen numerous incarnations. The earliest record the Smiths can find is that the building was a drugstore in the 1930s. Prior to the building of the current post office in 1954 the building served as the Daingerfield’s post office. There has also been an auto parts store, a clothing store, and numerous restaurants in the building, as well.

The building also served as the original Laura’s Cheesecakes restaurant. Large windows were placed in the wall separating the front room from the area where the cheesecakes were created. The windows offered visitors the opportunity to watch as the cheesecakes were made. “The biggest transformation was from Laura’s Cheesecakes, because we had to take out one of the large windows and build walls in their place,” said Mrs. Smith. With the building's history as a restaurant and senior meal center, it provided the Smiths with the beginnings of a kitchen for their center. “We cannot cook big meals in the kitchen, as we are not Health Code certified,” said Mrs. Smith, adding, “but with the cooler and stove, we have the capabilities to heat food up, or keep it cool prior to serving.”
