Lady Tigers begin basketball season with split of Jefferson, L-K games

The Daingerfield Lady Tigers officially began their basketball season on Nov. 8, traveling to Jefferson to take on the Lady Bulldogs.

Junior Varsity lost 28–53. In the loss for the Lady Tigers, Jaime Nix had eight points, five steals, and four rebounds. Tori Bennett had two points and three steals; Gekayla Alexander had four points and two steals; and TaQuasia Latchison had 10 points and two rebounds. Jahkayla Doddy had three points, four steals, and two rebounds; and Elasia Alexander added one point and one rebound. Other members of the junior varsity are Jakia Neal, Keke Floyd, and Demontesia Hendrix.

The Varsity squad lost their matchup, 73-40. In the loss for the Lady Tigers, Mikayla Roberson had 19 points and went 11 for 17 on free throws while adding three assists. Tanacia Williams had five points and three rebounds; Makayla Robinson had four points and two rebounds; Montrevia Durham had four points, seven rebounds, two assists, and three steals; Kahleyia Johnson had three points, seven rebounds, and two assists; Kiara Robinson had three points; Dee Hall had two points; Jasmine Tatum had one rebound; and Mo Sok had two steals. There were 52 fouls called in the varsity matchup.

In varsity-only action on Nov. 11, the Tigers defeated Linden-Kildare 36-16. Freshman Mikayla Roberson led the Lady Tigers with 23 points, including two three point shots and tree free throws. Roberson also added five steals, and three assists. Freshman Montrevia Durham added 10 points, with six rebounds, five steals, and one assist, while Junior Kahleyia Johnson had three points, 14 rebounds, and six steals.

Dangerfield hosted Tatum on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Varsity will compete in the New Diana Tournament on Nov. 17-19. Both the junior varsity and varsity will play at home on Nov. 22 against Jefferson. Daingerfield is 1- 1 for the season.
