Share the joy of giving this Christmas
Christmas is known as the season for giving, but that does not have to mean just giving gifts to family and friends. There are many ways to share the joy of giving with those around you, many of which won’t break the bank.
*Make your own Christmas cards: All this would cost is a package of paper and some creativity. Families could gather together and make cards for those they love, or even for nursing home residents, which relates directly with this next idea,
*Visit nursing homes or hospitals, passing out homemade Christmas cards and singing Christmas carols. (Make sure to call ahead to get approval from staff.)
*Donate to those in need: there are several organizations and entities that help those in need, especially during the holidays. You can make purchases of toys or clothing to donate to children in need. Another option would not only be to donate food to a food pantry or shelter, but to volunteer. Many food pantries and shelters see an influx in those requesting assistance during the holidays. That increase sometimes necessitates a rise in volunteers need to help package, distribute, deliver, or serve.
*Go caroling: as simple as this sounds, caroling is a wonderful way to spread holiday cheer. Not only does it warm the heart of those who are visited, but the carolers almost always receive a blessing, as well.
*Random acts of kindness: Maybe there is a neighbor who just lost a loved one or had a new baby. Maybe you pay for the purchase of the vehicle behind you at the fancy coffee house while out Christmas shopping. Maybe you give out “free hugs” to shoppers at the mall. Anytime you choose to do something unexpected for someone who may not be able to do anything for you in return is the ultimate example of sharing the joy.
Take time out during this busy holiday season to think of others. It is a trait that is needed more now than ever.
