Varsity Lady Tigers compete in Brownsboro Tournament

The varsity Lady Tigers’ basketball team traveled to Brownsboro over the weekend for tournament action.

On Thursday, Dec. 8, the Lady Tigers took on the Longview Lady Lobos, losing, 60-22. At the end of the first quarter, Daingerfield was down 12-0 and played a much better second quarter to be down by ten at the half. Longview got on a roll in the third, however, and the Tigers just couldn’t recover, fighting till the end.

Freshmen Mikayla Roberson had nine points, six rebounds, four blocks, three assists, and three steals. Junior Kahleyia Johnson had seven points, ten rebounds, and two steals, while freshman Montrevia Durham had four points, five rebounds, and two steals. Freshmen Kiara Robinson added two points and three rebounds.

Daingerfield played Grace Christian Friday morning, Dec. 9. The Lady Tigers were unable to muster much offense, losing 66-16. Kahleyia Johnson had seven points for the Lady Tigers, to go along with eight rebounds and two steals. Makayla Roberson added six points and four rebounds, while Dee Hall added two points and three rebounds. Jasmine Tatum rounded out the scoring for the Lady Tigers, adding one point and three rebounds.

In the Tigers’ final game of the tournament, Daingerfield fell to Kilgore, 28-46. Mikayla Roberson knocked down 17 points for the Lady Tigers, adding three assists. Kiara Robinson scored five points with two rebounds, and Dee Hall added two points and three assists. Freshman Montrevia was busy on both sides of the ball, scoring four points, grabbing four rebounds, dishing out two assists, and adding four steals in the loss.

District play began Tuesday, Dec. 13 against New Boston at home. The Lady Tigers will then travel to Queen City on Dec. 16, with the junior varsity scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Varsity will begin immediately after.
