What do you muse about?
Boomer Musings
By J. Leslie Riseden
Well, here we are, dear readers, on the precipice of 2017. Whaaaat? Remember when we used to wonder how in the world we would even refer to a year that begins with “20?” How long did it take you to stop writing “19” in your date line without even thinking? Well, anyway, I’d like to add a new dimension to this column in 2017.
For almost a year now, I’ve shared with you my memories, musings and the thorns in my side. In the coming months, I’d like to hear from you, and share some of your thoughts.
What amazes you about the youth of today? What puzzles you? What really ticks you off? What’s changed since you were a kid, and what hasn’t really changed at all? Are your grandchildren from another planet, or do you actually get what they’re talking about? What do you think about the music, movies and television of the day?
How are you coping with technology? Do you “Face Time” with your grandkids, or did you just drop out after your first flip-phone? (When you write LOL, do you mean “Laugh Out Loud” or “Lots Of Love?”)
Tell me about your first job, your first car or your first kiss. Where were you when the history-making events of our youth occurred? (The Kennedy and King assassinations. The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Man on the moon.) Tell me what’s great about being a member of the Baby Boomer generation (born 1946- 1964), and what isn’t. What do you miss about the 60s and 70s? What are some of the lessons you learned that still apply today?
I really want to hear from you, and get your take on some familiar themes. Write to me at BoomerMusings@gmail.com, or at The Steel Country Bee, P.O. Drawer M, Daingerfield, TX 75638.
Meanwhile, I wish each of you the very best for all of 2017 … be it a spring of fat bass, a summer of sweet tea, an autumn of winning teams or a winter of crackling fires and turkey sandwiches.
