Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs eager to complete unfinished business

The Hughes Springs Lady
Mustangs 2016 softball season
ended with a thud. It was a season
of great potential that
started with a few questions
marks, but throughout the season,
all of those question marks
were answered. The only thing
that stood in their way was a
mountain of unrealized potential.
While some people were
sent home disappointed with a
regional playoff loss to a good
team, most people also understood
that good thing are still to
come.
This 2017 season brings that
potential back to the stage, but
what will make this season different
is that the ladies are a year
older and wiser. Gone are the
days when they questioned
whether or not they could
accomplish the goals they have
set for themselves. These ladies
know that they can reach their
ultimate goal, which is the state
tournament in Austin, in early
June. They are well aware what
needs to be done to get there,
and their coach, Tisha
Thompson, knows what it takes
to get them there. We, the fans
know that we want to be along
for the ride.
In 2016, the bleachers were at
times straining from the weight
of the amount of spectators that
came to watch such a fun and
entertaining brand of softball.
Sure, the parents were there, but
the fans that have started to
come and see these Lady
Mustangs are hungry, and they
understand that these ladies are
primed to do special things.
Gone from last year’s team is
Bailey Tenbrook and Emily
Meade, who both graduated.
Both ladies played a brand of
ball that has been handed down
to this year’s players to emulate.
That brand is a tough, hardnosed,
never give up attitude of
softball. That type of softball is
taught and passed down year
after year, but most teams take
on the attitude of their head
coach and assistants. With
Coach Thompson, Coach
Wayne Mosley, and Coach April
Breshears leading the way, these
ladies from Hughes Springs are
about to show all of Texas that
they mean business.
