Art show recognizes area artists, photographers

HUGHES SPRINGS – Artists and photographers from around the area displayed their work at the fourth annual Hughes Springs Art and Photography Show held at The Legacy Event Center March 2-4.

The show featured original artwork, woodwork, and photography in youth and adult categories. Judges chose the top entry in each category, with the youth category being split by grades kindergarten through grade 5, 6-8, and 9-12.

NTCC Associate Art Professor Debbie Strong, who teaches Digital Arts, Ceramics, Design, and Drawing, judged the art portion of the show. She looked for composition, technique, and overall design.

Anna Precise won the grades 9-12 division with her “Self-Portrait,” followed by “Life’s Mixed Emotions” by Jessica Rodgers and J.J. Jones’ “Self- Portrait.”

Macy Wright’s “Buck in Starburst” won the grades 6-8 art division. Chase Crow, with his “Flag for Elephants” placed second, followed by Vanessa Winders with “August Stewart.”

In the K-5 division, “Big Yellow Bloom,” by Mia Garate, took first place. Garate was followed by Natalie Ney’s “Daffodil Time” and “Cat’s Bouquet” in second and third, respectively.
