Lady Tigers finish tournament with 1-5 record
LONGVIEW -- The Daingerfield Lady Tigers competed in the Texas Two- Step softball tournament this weekend at Lear Park, where they finished with a 1-5 mark.
The Tigers fell to Prairieland, 20-2, in their final game on March 4. Courtney Makepeace had a single and Camryn Byrd knocked a home run to go along with her single. Byrd also scored two runs, and had one RBI. Destiny Hurndon had an RBIdouble, while Baylee Welch and Makayla Robinson each hit a single.
Makepeace took the loss for Daingerfield, giving up nine runs, seven walks and four hits while fanning one batter in less than one inning of work. Robinson took over with two outs and gave up 11 runs on 10 hits and struck out two.
The Lady Tigers’ first contest on March 4 saw Jefferson and Daingerfield tied, 5-5, with less than 10 minutes left. Tournament rules then called for an International tie-breaker to be played out, which Daingerfield lost, 11- 7. Makepeace scored a run and Byrd scored two runs and hit a double while collecting an RBI, while Makayla Robinson hit a single and scored once. Kiara Robinson slammed two home runs and collected three RBIs, while scoring twice. Jasmine Tatum (RBI) and Skylar Williams each had a single.
Byrd took the loss as she allowed eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
In late Friday action, Daingerfield lost to Arp, 9-4. Byrd had two hits and scored twice. Destiny Hurndon scored the Tigers’ other two runs and also had two hits (RBI), Welch hit two singles ( two RBIs), Kiara Robinson had a single (RBI) and Skylar Williams added a single.
Byrd took the loss on the mound. She allowed two hits, fanned five and walked two.
On March 3, the Lady Tigers fell to West Rusk, 10-2.
Byrd, Williams and Makayla Robinson each had a single, while Williams and Makayla Robinson added an RBI. Kiara Robinson had two singles (RBI) and scored once and Tatum scored one run.
Byrd took the loss on the mound. She allowed three hits, stuck out two and walked four.
The Lady Tigers lost to Kilgore, 16-0 in their second game on March 2. Welch notched the only hit for Daingerfield.

The Lady Tigers opened Thursday’s action by defeating James Bowie, 9-5. Makepeace had four hits, two RBIs and scored three times. Byrd recorded an RBI-double and scored once, Welch had one hit (RBI), Kiara Robinson and Makayla Robinson each had one hit and scored a run, Hurndon and Williams each scored one run and Dee Hall added a single.
Byrd was the winning pitcher, striking out two, while giving up three hits and one walk. The Lady Tigers are 6-13 overall and 0-1 in District 14- 3A as of March 6.
According to statistician Jana McGoldrick, the Lady Tigers have had to overcome some line-up changes already in the 2017 season with the loss of senior shortstop My’Asha Buford to an injury and senior third baseman Ashlyn Fomby to illness.
Lady Tigers fall in 14-3A opener HOOKS – The Lady Tigers lost to Hooks, 12-2, in their District 14-3A opener Feb. 27.
Hooks took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and was up 8-0 before the Lady Tigers put their first runs on the board.
Daingerfield scored their only runs in the top of the fifth on Ashly Fomby’s single. DHS had eight hits, but committed seven errors.
Baylee Welch added two singles, while Courtney Makepeace, Camryn Byrd and Makayla Robinson each had a single.
Byrd suffered the loss in the circle. She allowed eight hits, walked five and struck out one.
