Women’s movement needs re-booted

The absolute disdain shown to the women in the Trump administration is shameful. The verbal and media assaults against these ladies are just the most recent example of why the women’s movement is this country needs to be overhauled. This behavior by these groups that claim to support women’s rights and issues is nothing new.

The National Organization for Women (NOW) has for decades made the claim that they are fighting for women’s rights. The sad thing is that has not always included all women.

When Sarah Palin was picked to be John McCain’s vice presidential running mate she was dragged through the mud on a daily basis. Palin was an accomplished woman, a former governor of Alaska and a successful business woman, in her own right. So when she was being brutally attacked did any of these so called women’s groups come to her defense? No, they stood by and turned a blind eye to what was happening and in some cases piled on and helped with the criticism.

So if these groups were so interested in helping and promoting women’s rights why did they throw Sarah Palin to the wolves? The answer is simple. She was a republican. You see the only women that these groups are interested in supporting and protecting are democrat women who agree with their liberal agendas.

First Lady Melania Trump is a beautiful and classy lady. She speaks six languages and is a very accomplished woman. But none of that seems to matter to the haters out there. At a recent rally in Florida, the First Lady recited the Lord’s Prayer to kick off the rally. Within hours liberal heads were exploding. Some were saying she violated the separation of church and state. Others were questioning her religion. But did any of these famous women’s groups come to her defense? No. Of course, the fact that the former president and first lady said prayers at events many times was never an issue when they did the same thing.

Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter is another very successful business woman. She is lovely, smart, articulate woman who has accomplished many great things in her career. Besides being instrumental in running her father’s companies, she also has her own line of women’s clothing and accessories that sell in hundreds of locations. She also has a long history of charitable work. But none of that matters because of the hatred for her father.

Nordstrom’s department stores recently dropped her clothing line from their stores. Of course, they said it was not politically motivated but we all know that is not true. Did N.O.W. or any other women’s group come to her defense? Of course not. Why? We all know why they didn’t. Of course, we all have to remember these groups are all about women’s rights and protecting women right?

Kellyanne Conway, the woman who ran Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is another great example. Conway was the first woman to ever run a successful presidential campaign in the history of the United States. That was a huge accomplishment.

You would think she would be applauded by women’s groups as being a great role model to other women, right? Nope, she has the same two problems as Sarah Palin, Melania, and Ivanka Trump.

She has conservative beliefs and is a republican. There is not one instance where any of these women’s groups has ever come to the aid of any women that was not of their political persuasion. At the recent women’s march on Washington, there were no women from the pro-life movement invited to the march.

Gee, why not? Oh, now I remember, they were not invited because that was not an acceptable belief system with the organizers of the march. They only wanted the pro-abortion protesters to participate. Does anyone see the hypocrisy here?

So here is my suggestion to the NOW bunch or any other women’s rights group. If you claim to support women’s rights and issues, that should include all women.

Of course, that is never going to happen so quit claiming to be the champion of women if you are not going to include everyone.
