HALLOWATER -- Virda
Ruth Harris, 89, of Shallowater,
formally of Daingerfield, passed
away peacefully on Thursday,
April 13. She was born on Dec.
15, 1927, in Sharpsburg, Iowa
to the late Claud and Bertha
(Barnhart) Platt.
Ruth married Guy I. Harris on
Aug. 30, 1946. As a preacher’s
wife, Ruth moved often and
always enjoyed setting up a new
home for her family. Music was
her main interest throughout
her life and she was a soloist, a
choir director, a VBS song leader,
and wrote and produced youth
programs for the children of the
churches.
Late in life, after raising her
family, she worked at a variety
of clerical jobs. In her retirement
years, she was a volunteer teaching
GED, ESL and computer at
the Adult Learning Center, doing
manicures at Windsor Place
Nursing Homes, and served as
a secretary and volunteer at the
Christian Service Center from
1988 until 2016.
Ruth is survived by her husband
of 70 years, Guy; children,
Guy Phillip Harris, of Cunningham,
Kansas, Andrew Lind Harris
and wife Debbie, of Carlsbad,
New Mexico, Sally Ruth Bartlett
and husband Glen of Shallowater,
Todd Joseph Harris and
wife Barbara of Lewisville,, and
Lance David Harris of Pampa; 10
grandchildren, and 14 greatgrandchildren.
She is preceded
in death by nine siblings, and
daughter-in-law, Elaine Harris.
Visitation was held on Sunday,
April 16, at Combest Family
Funeral Homes. Funeral services
were held on Monday, April 17,
at the 12th Street Church of
Christ, Shallowater.
Interament followed in the
Anton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations can be
made to Dallas Christian College,
2700 Christian Pkwy, Dallas,
Texas 75234.
