Statewide texting ban goes into effect Sept 1

AUSTIN – Gov. Greg Abbott has signed a bill that would ban texting while driving, although the bill is set to be revisited when lawmakers return in special session.

The ban, which would prohibit the reading, writing and sending of electronic messages via mobile devices while operating a vehicle, does not include talking on mobile phones while driving. Drivers will also still be able to use GPS systems on mobile phones while driving.
