DAINGERFIELD – The Morris County District Attorney’s Office has a new investigator. Former Morris County Sheriff ’s Deputy Ross Dickson has been hired to replace Billy Mack Harrison, who retired May 31. Dickson was sworn in and began work on July 24.

Dickson began his law enforcement career as a jailer in the Morris County Jail in 1997. He then became an officer on the street in 2000. Most recently, Dickson was serving as Sergeant under Sheriff Jack Martin.

“I’d like to thank Sheriff Jack Martin and his staff for their hard work and dedication, and for the opportunity to serve under his direction for many years,” said Dickson.

Dickson will be filling the role of investigator for the County and District Attorney’s office. His role will include investigating cases brought to the DA, and determining the strength of the case and working to ascertain what other material may be needed for a case.

In addition to the regular duties of Investigator, Ross will also be helping to implement a new program, aimed at reducing the strain on the jail and courthouse system.

Cowan saw a need to revamp a system that has been in place for many years. Cowan, with Dickson’s assistance is starting a pilot program that will implement many new regulations, including risk assessments on inmates.
