Tigers fall to 4A powerhouse Atlanta, 34-19

DAINGERFIELD – The Daingerfield Tigers welcomed Atlanta to Mickey Mayne Tiger Stadium on Sept. 8. The home opener for the Tigers did not go their way, with the Rabbits hopping out with a 34-19 victory in the non-conference matchup.
The Tigers, who won the coin toss but elected to defer, pinned the Rabbits in their own territory with the opening kick-off. Atlanta pounded away on the ground, eventually scoring on a 35-yard touchdown run. Following the twopoint conversion, Atlanta held an eight-point lead.
Daingerfield answered with their own first possession score when quarterback Reggie Jeter scored on a one-yard run and two-point conversion. Jeter’s score was set up by a 15 yard pass from Jeter to Jakauri Wood on the Tigers’ 63-yard drive.
The two teams traded possessions before a Tiger fumble gave the Rabbits a short field. Atlanta capped the 23-yard drive with another touchdown, pushing the score to 14-8.
The ball proved a slippery object for the Tigers, as another Tiger fumble led to a 25-yard touchdown pass for Atlanta, running the score to 22-8.
Jose Bello’s 27-yard field goal was set up by a 33-yard Jeter run before Atlanta scored again, making the score 28-11.
After a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on an Atlanta player, followed by a 15-yard run by Jeter, led to a 12-yard scoring run for Trodarius Lynn, closing the gap to 28-19. Atlanta would score once more to seal the Tigers’ loss.
Coach Mike Waldie and his staff will attempt to sort out the Tigers’ tackling issues, which played a part in the loss to Atlanta. The Tigers will welcome the New Boston Lions to Tiger Stadium on Sept. 15. The Tigers will also celebrate homecoming, with festivities beginning prior to the scheduled 7:30 kick off.
