DAINGERFIELD – Daingerfield State Park is already known as a destination for those looking for a place to camp, fish, or enjoy the great outdoors. Thanks to the Little Pine Friends of the State Park group, visitors can now enjoy a book while enjoying the great outdoors.

Thanks to the Little Pine friends, the State Park now has a registered “Little Free Library” available for guests. The library is available for guests of all ages to come and borrow a book to read while at the park. They can also take the books home with them, share them with friends, or add more books to the library to be shared with others.

The library, which is located near the pavilion, offers books for all ages. Children can also pick out a “reading buddy” to take home to read to and with.

When looking through the books available at the library, visitors may find names they recognize, if they are from this area. Three local authors have donated their books to be used in the Little Free Library. Hughes Springs native <elinda McGuire has donated a copy of her book, “Nelson and Cora: the Beginning” to be available in the library. Gladewater resident Dana Wayne also has givena copy of her novel, “Mail Order Groom” for visitors to enjoy.

Children also have the opportunity to enjoy a special book donated by a local author. Avis McMullen, also known as Miss Magic, is a former Hughes Springs elementary school teacher who now operates the Christian Learning Center in Daingerfield. Her children’s book, “Zirquil: My Imaginary Monster” can be read by children to their reading buddies while at the state park.

As the name implies, the “Little Free Library” is free to use. Park fees are required to enter the park, and are $4 for adults, while children enter free.
