Mustangs fall to Jefferson, 42-22

HUGHES SPRINGS -- That’s why they play the game. That’s the way the ball bounces. They left it all out on the field.

The sport clichés are out there and most have heard them all. But to spare you anymore clichés, this is the last one for this article. The Mustangs only lost that game on the scoreboard.

Truth be told, that is not necessarily a cliché, because it is true. Stats do not lie; more so they paint a picture.

The Mustangs were on the losing end of the final score, 42-22, but with 6 turnovers on the night, Mustang faithful can’t help but wonder how different the outcome would have been without even two or three of those turnovers.

The game began with much promise and hope. Senior Zack Pilgrim snagged an interception and returned it deep into Jefferson Bulldog territory, and the Hughes Springs squad was in business. This gave hope of a quick score on a Jefferson team that was blowing out opponents as of late.

But a fumble and loss of possession quickly put that hope on hold.
