Tigers nipped by Eagles, 24-21

DIANA – In a game with playoff seeding implications, Daingerfield’s stingy defense headed to Diana to face a high-powered New Diana. At the end of a relatively low-scoring between two teams who consistently put up 40 or more points in a game, the Eagles ended up on top, 24-21.

In a game that many expected to be filled with an offensive fireworks show, both teams came out rather flat, with Diana punting four plays after the opening kickoff and Daingerfield missing a field goal to end their first drive. After Diana again punted, Daingerfield finally seemed to show some life. After a 10 yard run by Daingerfield’s Chris Castleberry and an eight yard run by Zaylon Jeter, quarterback Jakauri Woods hooked up with Castleberry on a 25 yard reception before Woods was able to run the ball in from the 19 yard line to put the Tigers ahead, 7-0, at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles and Tigers again swapped drives, with neither team really connecting much on offense. During the Eagles second drive of the second, Woods stepped in front of a Diana pass, giving the Tigers the ball on their own 37 yard line. Unfortunately, Woods and the Daingerfield offense was unable to capitalize on the turnover and the Tigers were forced to punt.
