Winter storm shuts down the Steel Country area
by TONI WALKER
DAINGERFIELD – Mother Nature showed her cold side, channeling her inner “Elsa” last week as a winter storm hit the Steel Country Bee area late in the evening of Jan. 15.
After a high of 57 during daylight hours on Monday, temperatures dropped to the low 20s before midnight, and continued to dip as precipitation turned from rain to a wintery mix. By the early morning hours, the wintery mix had turn to snow which blanketed the area in a powdery coating. Temperatures in Daingerfield missed breaking the record low for January, which was set in 1962 ( four degrees), but still were well below the average low for the date (33 degrees). The record low for the date of 17 degrees was set in 1972.
