Tigers defeat Queen City and Hooks in walk-off fashion
By TONI WALKER
Still playing catch-up following two weeks where at least one game was cancelled due to weather, the Daingerfield Tigers put in three games the past week to end the season. The Tigers opened the week with a 13-0 loss to New Boston, then followed that with an 8-7, walk-off win against Queen City. The team ended the week with Senior Night against Hooks on April 20.
In the game against Hooks, the Tigers recognized their three senior players in pregame ceremonies. Alexis DeLeon, AJ Carroll, and Tylor Lester each were recognized for their contributions to Tiger baseball. Once the game began, the Tigers fell behind quickly, staring at a 7-1 deficit by the fifth inning. Daingerfield pushed across four runs over two innings, chipping away at the Hornet’s lead. The Tigers entered the seventh down 7-5. With the bases loaded, Austin Fomby was hit by a pitch to score a run, closing the score to 7-6. Freshman Caleb Nixon, fresh off game-winning heroics against Queen City on Tuesday, stepped to the plate in a bases loaded, two out situation. Nixon reprised his heroics from earlier in the week, this time with a walk-off double that scored two runs that gave the Tigers an 8-7 win.
