Health fair gets bigger every year

Shorter days and cooler weather brings thoughts of preparation for the winter months and for many, getting those flu shots is a vital part of this preparation. This year’s flu shots will be available at the 19th annual Daingerfield Health Fair to be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Daingerfield High School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This year the Daingerfield Country Club, Larry and Marilyn Miears and Morris County Judge Lynda Munkres will provide shuttle service from vehicles to the ramp areas, making it easier for many to visit the health fair. Bring old eye glasses to the fair as the Daingerfield Lions Club will pick them up for recycling.
The Piney Woods Civic Club will register and greet the general public this year.
Flu shots are free for those with Medicare. Other vaccinations are also available including tetanus, pneumonia, and meningitis.
Most of the screenings are free or at a reduced cost. Screenings include blood pressure checks and testing for blood sugar, bone density, cholesterol, diabetic foot care, eye exams, mole screenings, prostate specific antigen, and video ostoscope. Mount Pleasant Ear, Nose, and Throat will do hearing tests.
If you wish to take advantage of the mammogram services at the health fair, appointments can be made by calling 1-800-648-8141, extension 3. They will accept Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and offer grants if income eligible. If you do not have insurance, they offer exams for $150 cash that includes the exam and radiological fees.
