Williams sentenced on improper relationship between educator, student

A former Hughes Springs teacher was sentenced Feb. 11 to 10 years deferred adjudication on an improper relationship between an educator and a student, according to Cass County Criminal District Attorney Clint Allen.
Tammy Jo Williams, 34, of Omaha, was sentenced in the Fifth District Court of Cass County by Judge Ralph K. Burgess, Mr. Allen said.
“Along with the 10 years deferred adjudication probation, Mrs. Williams was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine plus costs of court, abstain from the use of alcoholic beverages and illegal narcotics and submit to chemical testing upon request by her community supervision officer,” Mr. Allen said. “She was ordered to complete 400 hours community service, report to her community supervision officer two times per month, provide a DNA sample, abide by sex offender conditions, have no contact with the victims, relinquish her teacher’s certificate, and abide by all of the other standard conditions of probation.”
Mrs. Williams had been indicted by a Cass County grand jury on five counts of improper relationships between an educator and a student on April 22, 2010. Although Mrs. Williams was working as a special education teacher at Hughes Springs Independent School District, she was an employee of the Mount Pleasant ISD, according to Hughes Springs Police Chief Randy Kennedy.
