Peggy Jo Barrow May
Peggy Jo Barrow May, 73, passed away at home on Wednesday, Oct. 30, after a courageous journey with breast cancer. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Daingerfield with the Revs. John Stone and Don Ross officiating. Burial services will follow at the Nevils Chapel Cemetery, Farm-to-Market 1402, near Mount Pleasant. Arrangements are under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. She was born on Nov. 1, 1939, in Titus County to Franky and Joe Barrow. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Opal and Lawrence May, and brother-in-law, Harold Kay May. Peggy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Decker Neal May of Daingerfield; daughter and husband, Robin and the Rev. John Stone of Huntsville, Ala.; son and wife, Russell and Debbie May of Hallsville; grandchildren, Katlyn May, Harrison Stone and Abby Stone; sister and husband, Joyce and Jimmy Merchant of Mount Pleasant; sister-in-law, Jan May of DeKalb; nieces and nephews, Leigh Merchant and fiancé, Randy Burnett, Ashley May, Janssen and wife, Misty May, Melissa and husband, Chris Webb, Jessica and Jeremie Maxwell, Taylor May, Jacob May, Aaron May and Drake Webb; numerous cousins and friends. Peggy attended East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University-Commerce) where she received her B.S. and M.Ed. degrees. She taught for 40 years in the Pittsburg and Daingerfield-Lone Star schools. She was a loyal supporter of “Big Blue” Tiger athletics. She lived a life of faith and service and was a member of First Baptist Church of Daingerfield, where she served in the Nursery Sunday School Department and AWANA. Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Guinn, Randy Jones, Malcolm Key, Rick Smith, Clifton Martin and James Collins. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home.
