The Daingerfield Tigers had one last hurdle get over before cruising into the playoffs with a bye week and a first round bye in the playoffs.
That hurdle was Queen City and they decided to fight back – for a half anyhow - but the Tigers eventually pulled away for a 36-6 victory.
The First half of the game, Queen City threatened a few times to put the ball in the end zone, but the tough Daingerfield defense would step up and make the stop.
Earning shut outs for the past three weeks was something the Tigers kept firmly on their minds all night long.
The shutout streak was ended by the Bulldogs as they came up with a touchdown on a one-yard run with 20 seconds left to go in the first half.
By that time, however, Cordarius Anderson had put two runs in the end zone for Daingerfield and they were leading 14-6 going into the halftime break.
Anderson scored on the Tigers’ second drive of the game, taking over with runs of 11, eight, four and then the four yard touchdown consecutively.
The second run didn’t take as long. Anderson took the ball after a punt was returned to the Queen City 40 by Troy Stuard and rolled the rest of the way to pay dirt on the first play from scrimmage.
Daingerfield had the 14-0 lead and looked to be rolling.
At this point, the Big Blue defense had been bending but not breaking, but the Queen City offense decided to make one more big push before the half. A miscue from the Tigers moved the ball up on a 52 yard run. Queen City spent the next five plays, including a fourth down conversion to finally move the last 17 yards.
A missed PAT put the score at 14-6 in Daingerfield’s favor, but he half was not over just yet. A poor squib kick from Queen City gave the Tigers a chance with 18 seconds left to go in the half to move the ball 65 yards.
