Mustangs upended by Waskom, 56-38

Friday night, the Hughes Springs Mustangs squared off against the Waskom Wildcats in a matchup to determine the winner of District 9-2A.  In a contest that was highly anticipated and talked about in many circles, Mustang fans left Friday nights heavyweight matchup wondering what went wrong.  
The Mustangs were unable to stop the potent rushing attack of the wildcats and enter the post season as the second place representative out of District 9 in the Class 2A Division II playoffs, following a 56-38 loss.
The slugfest started with the Mustangs throwing the first punch with a long touchdown run by Chris Royal that quickly put the Mustangs up 6-0. Michael Martinez followed with a two-point conversion and the score was 8-0 with nearly one minute off the clock in the first quarter.
