A Cason resident, who said she regularly uses the computer at the Daingerfield Public Library weekday mornings at 8 a.m., expressed her dislike of the new hours that were set by the Daingerfield City Council at its Oct. 14 meeting. The library will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. on Mondays; from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
Pat O’Farrell said she drops her grandchildren off at schools in the city and then goes to the library to use the computers.
“I have a real concern changing the hours,” she said. “There are a lot of us that go there when the library first opens. There are a lot of students from Northeast Texas Community College that go there for online classes. It is easy for me to drop the kids off and come on by. With it being a set time, it is easy for me to remember the time. When doing a lot of research for my class reunion, I spend a lot of time trying to locate class members. Is it the goal you have to have hours on Saturday? I think it would be better to have Tuesday through Friday the same hours. I don’t think it is fair to the library staff to have to work on Saturdays.”
Mayor Lou Irvin said one of the main reasons was the fact that junior high and high school students do not have time to come to the library after school.
