Northeast Texas Community College Presidental Scholar Matthew Jordan, of Pittsburg, won third place in a poster competition of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The Southwest Regional Meeting of the ACS sponsored this competition for undergraduates at its recent meeting in Waco.
“Matthew’s poster presentation had a magnificent design and was exceptionally edifying. He did a really superb job of expounding his research in a concise and distinct manner,” Kayleah Cumpian, a fellow Presidential Scholar from NTCC who attended the event, said.
Judges were interested to learn that of the 50 contestants, mostly juniors and seniors from research universities, he was a sophomore from a community college. He was the 2012 salutatorian at Pittsburg High School, and is the son of Sandra Jordan. He is also the first community college Student Representative of the Great Plains Honors Council in recent history, and was the mainstay behind NTCC’s first group State of Texas Caldwell Award back in March of 2012.
