Cities kick off new year with chamber of commerce banquets

 The year began with hundreds of people in Daingerfield crowding into the high school auditorium on Jan. 3 to rally for the support of local doctor, Roderick Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell’s medical license was revoked Nov. 30 by the Texas Medical Board. Two busloads of Morris County residents stormed the Texas State Capitol in Austin on Jan. 10 to appeal on behalf of Dr. Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell’s case is undergoing appeal in Austin.
Jeremy Gressman of Daingerfield was named to the President’s List. He attended Panola College in Carthage and is the son of Lloyd and Janina Gressman of Daingerfield.
Hughes Springs graduate Lyndee Laigle Hinton was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society at University of Texas at Tyler.   
Hughes Springs Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Crystal Globe 2012 went to Mable Hall at the January chamber of commerce banquet. The 2012 Citizen of the Year was captured jointly by David and Sue Black. Each year the chamber selects a quarterly business pride award. This past year’s recipients were Fast Lane Lube & Tire, Greg’s Miracle Mart, Cash Saver, and JB’s Hotlinks. The 2012 Business of the Year Crystal Globe was given to Fast Lane Lube & Tire, owned by Jason Dennis.
Sylvia Holland captured the Spirit of Beauty Crystal Globe award given by Gina’s Salon. Honolulu Givens Allen captured the Gemeta Castle Award.
Teacher of the Year awards went to high school teacher Jean Wall, junior high teacher Lisa Baxter and elementary teacher Brooke Dannelley.
Leland Cockrill captured the Hughes Springs Retired School Employee Association Crystal Globe award. Ashley Dennis was the recipient of the Eastern Star’s Crystal Globe. The Hughes Springs Lions Club Crystal Globe went to Marlene Bohr.
