Area basketball teams see holiday hoops action

Daingerfield, Hughes Springs and Avinger were all in action over the Christmas holiday as Hughes Springs played district games while Daingerfield was at the East Texas Playoff Preview Tournament at LeTourneau University.
Avinger picked up a win Dec. 20 as the Indians downed Big Sandy, 48-44. Jeremiaha Clark and Chiam Lloyd both scored 13 in the win while Lake Lloyd added 12.
The Indians won again Saturday as they beat Paul Pewitt, 82-56. Lake Lloyd was the top scorer for Avinger with 29 points while Clark added 25 points and 17 rebounds.
Hughes Springs split a pair of district games Dec. 20 as the boys downed Paul Pewitt while the Lady Mustangs fell to the Lady Brahamas.
The Mustangs used a third quarter run to pull away for a 56-38 win in their game as Fred Hopkins and Hunter Smith both scored 13.
The second and third quarters were the difference for the girls as the Lady Mustangs fell, 52-49. Kaycee Willis led Hughes Springs with 15 points.
Smith scored 19 for the Mustangs Saturday as they downed James Bowie, 63-27.
Daingerfield fell short in their first tournament game Friday as they fell to Center, 52-34. Keaton Key had nine points in the loss.
The Tigers bouncec back with a win Friday Evening as Key knocked down 10 three-pointers and scored 36 points as Daingerfield topped the Pine Tree Pirates, 76-46.
